Bandwidth and other standards
The setting is relative to size of the centre stone to create the overall balance effect. The standards we use have been determined with industry specialists for the most appropriate and complimentary band widths for each setting, given the shape and width of the center diamond. Below are the guidelines for the classic engagement settings that are provided to our professionals, and to which they will apply their judgment to maximize the effect of each individual ring and setting.
Solitaire
Center diamonds of 0,9 ct round and greater use 6 white gold prongs with a 2,75 mm band, the perfect band relative to the diamond of approximately 6 mm across. Center diamonds of less than 0,9 ct is set with 4 white gold prongs and in a 2,4 mm band. White gold is used for all prongs due to the strength and to enhance the color of the diamond. For Princess shapes, we use 4 prong settings at each corner with 2,6 mm bands (we do not provide princess shapes less than 0,9 ct in a solitaire setting, as smaller princess shapes are better suited to three stone or side stone settings).
Three-stone
For a three stone setting, the two smaller diamonds are approximately 35% of the size of the main diamond, are not separately certified and is in a complimentary range of the main diamond. For round center diamonds of 0,9 ct and greater, the band width is 2,75 mm and for smaller center diamonds, the band width is 2,4 mm. For princess center diamonds of 0,9 ct and greater, the band width is 2,60 mm and for smaller center diamonds, the band width is 2,4 mm. Side stone settings use a 4 prong white gold setting as the 6 prong setting is too busy to the eye with the additional side diamonds.
Side stones
For both round and princess shapes, where the center diamond is of 0,9 ct and greater, the band width is 3,0 mm and for smaller center diamonds, the band width is 2,5 mm. Side stones do not carry separate certificates as is industry practice due to practicality and all are set with the classic 4 prong white gold. For 3,0 mm bands, we use a 4 to 5 pointer side stone range (approximately 2 mm across) and a smaller band would be set with complimentary 2 to 3 pointer diamonds (approximately 1,8 mm across).
